Springfield Honors Bruce Landon
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Courtesy WWLP News) – When you think of hockey in Springfield, two names come to mind; Eddie Shore and Bruce Landon. Shore may well be “Mr. Hockey,” but Landon has been the face of Springfield hockey for close to two decades.
On Tuesday, the city renamed Falcons Way outside of the Mass Mutual Center, Bruce Landon Way. Landon has been involved with Springfield hockey for forty years, first as a goaltender, then as an executive and owner. Landon has fought to keep the American Hockey League in the city and now his name will be forever be a a part of the city’s hockey history.
“This is a tremendous honor for me and my family, but not just for me for the history of hockey in Springfield and what it means to this community. For me to be a part of it as long as I have is very very special, so it’s a special moment for me, but I think humbling is the right word,” said Landon.
Landon briefly retired when the Falcons left town, but will serve as a consultant for the Springfield Thunderbirds.
