Originally selected by the Blues in the third round (93rd overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft, Ellis is coming off his best season as a pro in 2023-24.

In 21 games with the ECHL's Orlando Solar Bears, Ellis posted a .923 save percentage, 2.45 goals-against average, and a 12-5-1 record. After his recall to the T-Birds, he went 7-9-0 with a .924 save percentage and 2.89 goals-against average in 16 games.

Entering the 2024-25 season, Ellis has posted a professional record of 47-39-14 between the AHL and ECHL.
