Panthers Recall Berra; F Malgin to T-Birds, Brittain Recalled
Springfield, MA - Florida Panthers President of Hockey Operations Dale Tallon announced today that the Panthers have assigned forward Denis Malgin to the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds prior to recalling goaltender Reto Berra.
Additionally, the Thunderbirds announced that they have recalled goaltender Sam Brittain from the Manchester Monarchs of the ECHL.
Malgin, 20, has recorded eight points (4-4-8) in 39 games with the Panthers during his first NHL season. The 5-foot-9, 177-pound native of Olten, Switzerland was originally selected by Florida in the fourth round (102nd overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft.
Berra, 30, owns a 9-8-2 record with a 2.24 goals against average, .918 save percentage and three shutouts this season with Springfield. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound native of Bulach, Switzerland was originally selected by the St. Louis Blues in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 2006 NHL Draft.
Brittain, 24, has put together a strong season in Manchester, tallying a 17-5-0 record, along with a .907 save percentage and 2.77 goals-against average. He played in 25 games with the AHL's Portland Pirates in 2015-16, recording an 8-10-3 record.
Malgin and Brittain join the Thunderbirds as they begin a three-game, three-night weekend on Friday against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:05 p.m. ET at the MassMutual Center.
