PINK IN RINK NIGHT HEADLINES 3-GAME WEEKEND

Mar 06, 2019

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Springfield Thunderbirds (24-24-6-5) begin their second consecutive 3-in-3 weekend on Friday night as they pay a visit to the Binghamton Devils (24-31-5-0) at the Floyd L. Maines Memorial Arena at 7:05 p.m. before returning home to tangle with the Hartford Wolf Pack (24-27-6-3) on Saturday night at the MassMutual Center for the third annual Pink in the Rink night.

The three-game weekend concludes on Sunday in Providence for another battle between the T-Birds and Bruins (29-21-7-2) at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.

The Thunderbirds will be looking for their second straight win over the Devils this season when they begin the weekend in action on Friday night. Springfield came away the 5-1 victors on Dec. 9 in the only previous matchup this season. Former Devil Jacob MacDonald picked up a pair of assists in the Springfield win, while Henrik Borgstrom and Jayce Hawryluk each tallied a goal and two assists. The Thunderbirds power play went 3-for-6 that Sunday afternoon, while the penalty killers were a perfect 5-for-5.

On Saturday, the Thunderbirds will look to pick up their third straight Pink in the Rink night victory after dispatching Hartford 5-2 in the first ever installment on March 11, 2016 and shutting out Utica 4-0 a year ago on March 10. Anthony Greco has scored a goal in each of the first two Pink in the Rink night contests in Springfield, both in front of sellout crowds.

On Saturday night, the Thunderbirds will wear specialty jerseys with pink accents in support of breast cancer awareness. A post-game live auction for player-worn jerseys will benefit Baystate Health's Rays of Hope Foundation.

As the schedule shifts gears on Sunday, the Thunderbirds will spent their second straight weekend in Providence to close the 3-in-3. The T-Birds and Bruins traded victories last weekend, with Springfield winning 4-2 on home ice on Saturday night before the Bruins returned the favor with a 5-2 win last Sunday in Providence.
