T-Birds Announce 2nd Straight Opening Night Sellout

Oct 12, 2017
Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Thunderbirds are excited to announce that for a second consecutive season, Opening Night presented by MGM Springfield on Saturday, October 14, has officially sold out.

“We are ecstatic to once again reach our goal of an Opening Night sellout,” said Thunderbirds President Nathan Costa. “This achievement would not be possible without the hard work of our team and the tireless, continued support from all of our loyal fans. We can’t wait to take last year’s unforgettable Opening Night experience and raise the bar even higher for all in attendance.”

Opening night celebrations on Saturday will begin with a pregame Block Party from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Court Square, presented by the Springfield BID, featuring live music from Trailer Trash, as well as food and beer specials. Fans are encouraged to get to their seats early for pregame ceremonies, which include a ceremonial puck drop with City of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, pyrotechnics and new game presentation elements. All fans in attendance will receive a commemorative jersey flag banner and a magnet schedule.

“We want to provide fans with another experience they will be telling their kids and grandkids about,” said Costa. “We could not be more excited to see the MassMutual Center rocking this Saturday.”

If you missed out on Opening Night tickets, fear not – the Thunderbirds will remain on home ice this Sunday at 3:05 p.m. for Kids Opening Day against the Toronto Marlies. Area mascots will make the journey to Springfield to help kick off the festivities when doors open at 2:00 p.m. Friendly’s Sundae Funday packs are available for the game as well. Starting at $44, fans can receive four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas, four popcorns, and four Friendly’s Ice Cream Sundae Coupons.

The Thunderbirds will also be back on home ice for the first 3-2-1 Friday on October 20 as they host the Providence Bruins. Rene Rancourt will perform the national anthem as he makes his annual pilgrimage to Springfield, presented by King Ward Coach Lines. Through the end of the first period, Coors Light drafts are just $3, hot dogs are just $2, and sodas are available for $1.
